The imbuing shrine

The imbuing shrine in its room, on the island.

Gear that drops from monsters can come blessed — more armour, more health, critical hits, dodge, double strike, speed. The shrine is the bench where those blessings are melted down, made and improved.

Any corpse can hand you a piece that already carries blessings. It is uncommon, and you do not have to examine anything to notice: the slot behind the piece changes colour with the number of blessings on it.

  • Up to five blessings on one piece: a drop comes with one, and the shrine adds the rest; weapons, bows, shields, armors and boots take two special ones on top.
  • Every blessing has three tiers, and the first is by far the most common.
  • SabreBrass ShieldQuiverBowBrass ArmorBackpackSix kinds of gear can carry them, each with its own list: weapons, shields, quivers, bows, armour and backpacks. Stackables, wands, ammunition, rings and amulets never do.
  • Examining the piece says what it gives; the Skills window adds it all up.
  • Dying can erase one blessing from something you are wearing. One roll per death, not one per piece.

There is one shrine on the island and it only works up close: you have to be standing on one of the nine tiles around the bench. The stones it uses do nothing in your hand — they only work there.

Magic DustMelt. Put a blessed piece in and it comes back as magic dust. What you get depends on how many blessings the piece carries — the more, the more dust; the attributes page has the table. Melting costs 1,000 gold a piece. Nothing that holds items goes in — no backpack, no quiver — so nothing you stored can vanish with it.

Crafting. Dust turns into the three stones, and small gems turn into giant ones.

Special Enchanting StoneSpecial enchanting stone. A fourth stone, the white one. It is crafted on the same tab as the others, but its recipe is not dust: it asks for a sacrifice, one piece with five blessings — the one whose slot has a red background. Crafting it opens a list of the pieces you can give up, and the one you pick is gone for good. A piece you are wearing cannot be sacrificed.

Blessings. Choose a piece and the stones become buttons, each showing how many of that stone you are carrying.

  • Enchant, with an enchanting stone — adds a new blessing. The piece needs a free slot.
  • Refine, with a refining stone — raises the tier of the blessing you point at, not a random one. It always works; if that blessing is already at the top tier, nothing happens and no stone is spent.
  • Reroll, with a shifting stone — trades the blessing you point at for another one. It always becomes a different one, at the same level.
  • Special Enchant, with a special enchanting stone — only on a weapon, a bow, a shield, an armor or boots. It adds ONE special blessing, drawn from the ones further down that fit that kind of gear (and that the piece does not have yet), at a tier drawn with the same odds as any other. The piece must already have its five common blessings: weapons, bows, shields, armors and boots have two more slots that only special blessings fill. One special turns the background gold; two make it blink gold.

What can roll. Every blessing has three tiers — weak, medium, strong — and which pieces can carry which blessing depends on the kind of gear.

Special blessings and the other stones. Refine works on a special blessing like on any other. Reroll works on it too, but a special blessing only turns into another special one, and a common blessing only into another common one. The plain enchanting stone never draws a special blessing — they only come from the white stone — and none of them drops from monsters.

The special blessings, with what each one does and its three tiers, are on the Attributes page.
