Every year, on the night of 31 October, the earth of the west graveyard stirs. This year, the scarecrow that guards the field next to it opened its eyes. The crows already knew.
From today at 9:00 until Tuesday, 3 November, at 9:00, every creature on the island can drop candy. Grizelda, the Candy Witch, waits on the hill just south of the temple to trade it for the prizes of the event, the Lantern Bearer outfit among them, made for Rookhard.
The Scarecrow Night comes to Rookgaard on Friday, 23 October, at 9:00, and stays until the server save of Tuesday, 3 November.
The crows already knew.
The pool is open in the game client, on the ballot box button beside the trophy.
It is about the first round only, and about who gets the most votes, nothing else. Rookhard takes no side, and the five names are drawn the same way on purpose.
The island has been open for seven days. Thirty-six versions went out in that time, most of them on the same day the report came in. The world came down for each one, always with a warning first, and always came back.
The biggest arrival was the Cyclopedia. The Bestiary lists every creature on the island: how many you have killed, what stage of knowledge you are at, the weaknesses and resistances, and the loot split by rarity. Each creature carries a difficulty of one to five skulls, worked out from its health and its defence, and the difficulty decides how many kills each stage asks for and how many charm points finishing it pays. Kills count separately per skull, so the red skull elf is its own hunt. A creature you have never killed shows as Unknown, in silhouette, until the first one falls. The Bestiary Tracker keeps the hunt you picked in a small side window, with a portrait and a progress bar, so you do not open the compendium after every kill.
Rookgaard is up, and the people invited to this beta can create an account and play. The island is the whole world: there is no boat, no mainland, and no vocation to pick. What you are good at is what you practised.
Two things are worth knowing before you walk out of the temple. Experience and skills come at ten times the old pace, so a level is within reach of an evening. Loot is not multiplied at all, so every sword on this island was either found or bought with gold somebody hunted for.
